History
VetCell BioScience Limited (formerly the Equine Regenerative Medicine
Company) was formed in August 2002 after investigation of the potential
for commercial applications of stem cell therapies in horses.
During 2002 the world renowned Royal Veterinary College (RVC), in
collaboration with VetCell, developed a procedure for the use of stem
cells in the treatment of injury to the flexor tendon or suspensory
ligament of horses. Aspects of this procedure have a patent pending.
During 2003 a series of subsidised cases were treated in order to assess
potential side effects of the treatment. Following positive results a
commercial laboratory service was launched.
Throughout 2004 the technology generated increasing levels of interest
from the veterinary profession and thoroughbred studs and VetCell is
currently working throughout Europe, Australia, NZ, Japan and the Middle
East.
